A little bit of history

Whiskey is a dark distilled spirit that is made from a variety of grains, including barley, corn, rye, and wheat. Whiskey was originally used as a medicine, both as an internal anesthetic and an external antibiotic. Distilling techniques were brought to Ireland and Scotland sometime between 1100 and 1300 by monks. Who would have thought?

Some tips and tricks to impress

  • Use high quality whiskey
  • Go with large ice cubes or chilled whiskey stones
  • Neat = no ice
  • Try a little water – it helps you to taste more flavours on your palate
  • Experiment with different types of whiskey – bourbon, rye, single malts and blends or twists on the original like a Manhattan or Whiskey sour
  • Use a decanter….because it’s a fashion statement

The best glass

DOF (Double Old Fashioned) glasses are perfect for a whiskey on the rocks. With a larger capacity than your traditional Old Fashioned glass you can add large ice cubes to enhance the flavour of the whiskey.

A little bit of Friday fun.
